Are prom dresses becoming too revealing?

It's amazing how much can change in just a few years. When I was a teen (which doesn't seem that long ago, sigh), prom was a huge deal! Girls wore ball gowns–this was serious business. I remember shopping with my mom for days, looking for the perfect dress.

These days, though, I've seen girls wear short dresses and casual dresses and, worst of all, dresses that leave very little to the imagination. There are dresses that feature slits up-to-there and cut-outs that show off almost every inch of their bodies. In fact, they look more like contestants on Dancing with the Stars than teens going to the prom. And I'm not the only one who's noticed this disturbing trend: schools are beginning to crack down on revealing prom dresses.

You may have already noticed this trend as well or maybe you're even experiencing it first-hand with your own kids. How do you help your kids with the shopping, with them wanting to be trendy but you wanting them not to reveal too much? Schools seem to be one of the major solutions.

In a report on AOL's Lunch Break, reporter Elizabeth Holmes explains what schools are doing to prevent teens from showing up at prom dressed innapropriately. Mainly, they are telling kids well ahead of time what's okay and what isn't, including no low armholes, clevage or plunging dress backs. As a fan of beautiful fancy dresses, here's hoping that this school tactic actually works and girls will go back to dressing well–without showing off all their goodies.
