Would you feed your baby bird-style like Alicia Silverstone does?

The internet is blowing up thanks to a controversial video posted by actress and activist Alicia Silverstone which shows her sharing her breakfast with her son Bear Blu, by chewing it up and then passing it to her toddler mouth-to-mouth.

In a blog post on her website The Kind Life—an extension of her vegan lifestyle book, The Kind Diet—Alicia shared a video having "breakfast with baby Bear" that she shot a month or two ago.

Although a lot of moms seem grossed out by her practice, some people are showing support. The question is: Could you do something like this? Or should you?

Alicia describes the experience on her blog:

I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It's his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!

Although it's sweet how mother and son have bonded, I agree with some of the outraged people that ask "What is this teaching about food and intimacy?" and wonder how safe it actually is to do this. Yes, it's only saliva (which we share with others via kissing anyway)–but isn't there a reason why birds do this but mamals don't?
