This has not been a good year for moms who use baby formulas…or babies who drink them for that matter! First, alarming levels of arsenic were found in certain packaged formulas and now, yet another company is announcing a recall of one of their products. Gerber has just pulled Gerber Good Start Gentle Powdered Infant Formula off of store shelves after receiving reports of an odd smell.
The company says that though some have complained of minor stomach pain and spit-up, the formula poses no health or safety risks and no injuries or hospitalizations have been recounted. The recall is limited only to products with the batch number GXP1684 and an expiration date of March 5, 2013. No other Gerber products are affected.

OK, thankfully, this case didn't cause any serious problems, but seriously, what is up all the recalls on kid's products lately? It seems like t__he FDA is just not doing enough to monitor the amount of chemicals in foods and juices (or toys, shampoo, lotions, etc).__ I know they are responsible for monitoring millions of products, but they need to step it up when it comes to items that involve children. After all, there's no real way for moms to know that the food they're buying is dangerous and it's not like the kids can sense that there's something harmful in their food.

It falls on the FDA's shoulders to weed out the bad from the good, especially since contaminants can cause cancer, autism, and other diseases in kids. The agency needs to take more preventative actions and acknowledge that by approving or disapproving certain type of foods, they could be impacting the future health of a child.
