I've loved me some Robert Downey Jr. ever since I first laid eyes on him in Back to School when I was just 6 years old–yes, that is how long I have loved him! So you can imagine how crushed I was when I witnessed his downward spiral into drug addiction as a teen. When he bounced back in 2005 with Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang I was elated!
Anyhow, as a devotee of RDJ (that's what all the cool kids call him) of course I've been following the news of his wife Susan's pregnancy and was waiting in anticipation to see what they would name their son, born yesterday in Los Angeles and weighing in at 7 lbs., 5 oz.
Drum roll please…they decided on Exton Elias Downey. OK, so can hear some of you groaning from here. You're probably thinking, "Ugh, there's another weirdo celebrity baby name," right? Well, let me tell you–I've heard way worse. I actually sort of like the name Exton, maybe not as much as I loved Indio (his first son's name) but hey, it has a certain ring to it.
And seriously chicas, can we really judge here? So many of us have crazy names or have fallen victim to naming our kids "unique" combinations of words and names. Yuniesky anyone? Yeah, thought so. Some of the most popular baby names of 2011 for Latinos included Montserrat and Aitana for baby girls. Baby boys didn't fare much better, with Íker and Thíago ranking in the top 100.
So before we get all judgemental with the way celebrities name their babies, remember that us Latinos do not escape unscathed from the weird baby name blame!
What do you think about the name Exton? What's the weirdest baby name you've ever heard of?
