I have a theory about weird celebrity baby names like Blue Ivy and Apple–they aren't real. Or at least I hope in my heart that their famous parents, aware of the unfair attention their child automatically gets, have released one silly name to the press and kept the baby's real name for school and family only. A girl can dream.
Don't worry about J.R. Martinez's baby girl though. The Dancing With The Stars winner has made it clear, his kid will not be named after an inanimate object. She will be named…
Something with meaning. Our favorite former soldier told People he would buck the celeb trend of naming his daughter after his favorite meal:
It will be something really close and personal to us that feels like we're giving something to her that is very special…We have narrowed it down to two names and we agree on it, which is good. I hear that traditionally, when it comes to the name picking, that's when the disagreements occur. But I think it will be a nice flow.
I could not agree more. When I was pregnant, all my family did was hound me about the baby's name and we really didn't want to pick until he was born. Naming another person is like the hardest thing you will ever do. For me, it was way scarier than labor (but I hate my first name so that might have something to do with it).
Also, it felt a little bit like testing fate. We were afraid that if we started calling the baby by a name before he got here, we might jinx his otherwise healthy existence. Like Martinez, we went into labor with two possible names and when we met our son, we picked his name.
We call him Platano, because we both really love plantains. (I kid, I kid. He was named after my abuelo)
How did you pick your baby's name?
