Three dead, including a pregnant woman, following Karol G concert in Guatemala

Colombian singer Karol G is currently one of the hottest Latin American artists out there. In February, she won a Grammy for best Música Urbana album. She also boasts five Latin Grammy Awards and four Billboard Music Awards, among a slew of other accolades. Tragically, however, violence broke out at one of her concerts—resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and two others.

Karol, 33, is in the middle of her Mañana Será Bonito Tour. Most recently, she performed two shows in Guatemala. Following the concert on March 2 in Guatemala City, three individuals lost their lives due to senseless violence.

An argument broke out after Karol G’s concert.

Following Karol G’s show, two men reportedly exited the venue and discovered their vehicle’s windows were broken, news website Marca reported. They allegedly paid a man to watch over the car during the concert. The broken windows prompted an argument between the three men.

Two men were killed in the altercation.

As the men argued, the confrontation intensified. Allegedly, the man paid to watch the car pulled out a gun and opened fire. The two men who attended Carol G’s concert, ages 21 and 30, reportedly died during the incident.

A pregnant woman was also inadvertently killed.

Tragically, a third person who was not involved in the altercation died. A pregnant woman, 31, was also struck by a bullet and killed, Marca reported. She was reportedly with her two children, 2 and 11, when the incident happened.

A suspect has been detained.

The national civil police arrested a suspect and took him to the Torre de Tribunales, the city's court building, bilingual news site Voz reported. Officers reportedly seized an illegal 9-millimeter caliber pistol. The Prosecutor's Office for Crimes Against Life is investigating the incident.

The country's minister of the interior released a statement.

Minister of the Interior Francisco Jimenez released a statement following the deaths. On X (formerly Twitter), he shared that "a night of joy was mourned by a direct attack.” Jimenez also issued a warning. "To these criminals who think they can get away with it, I say that the party is over," he wrote.

Karol G narrowly avoided another tragedy ahead of her Guatemala concerts.

Ahead of her March 1 and March 2 concerts, Karol G’s private jet took off from Burbank Airport in California on February 29–and was forced to make an emergency landing shortly after. The plane’s cockpit started filling with smoke, prompting pilots to land at a nearby airport, ABC7 reported. It landed safely at Van Nuys Airport but gave Karol G and the other passengers a major scare.
