We at MamásLatinas love a good family movie date, especially during the summer months, when almost nothing feels better than sitting back in an icy cold movie theater with plenty of snacks on hand. That’s one of the reasons we’re so excited about the premiere of the upcoming movie DC League of Super-Pets, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves—among other big names. The first time my kids saw the trailer, they were hooked.
My kiddos literally love any movie that features talking animals, and of course, anything that has to do with superheroes is always a win. We know exactly where we’re going to beat the heat on July 29! To help get everyone even more amped for this super-fun family film, we’ll be tuning in to find out the DC League of Super-Pets and MamásLatinas "Miércoles Words of the Week" all month long, so we can learn all about the movie’s crime-fighting pets — like Krypto, Ace and Merton — and exactly what makes them so extraordinary.
Krypto is definitely un "héroe perrón."
As Superman’s beloved pet and sidekick, Krypto, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, is always ready to take down the bad guys in Metropolis. He was born to be un "héroe perrón," an awesome hero. If anyone can rally the furry friends of Metropolis to help save the Justice League, it’s him.
Merton is surprisingly always "de volada."
Just imagine your pet turtle having super-speed. Yeah, we can’t quite picture it either, but that’s the reason why Krypto recruited Merton to help rescue the Justice League. Voiced by Natasha Lyonne, Merton sí vuela, but he’s still all turtle. He goes with the flow, but with his unexpected superpower, he brings plenty to the team.
Chip is one electrifying ardilla—literally!
Chip, voiced by one of our fave actors, Diego Luna, is a reluctant hero whose super power is shooting electrical current from his paws. Even though he's afraid he won't measure up, once his home—the Tailhuggers animal shelter—is under attack, he jumps into action and gets the courage to overcome his fear and become a true hero.
There’s always plenty of "chicharrón" when PB is around.
Who doesn’t love a pot-bellied pig? Well, PB, voiced by SNL alum Vanessa Bayer, isn’t your ordinary pig, but considering her newfound powers allow her to shrink or grow on command, it’s safe to say that at any size, PB has plenty of bravery and heart to spare. She might just be our favorite character!
Ace is always "en fuego."
Ace, whose voice you'll recognize as Kevin Hart's, may not always be on the same page as Krypto, but with his superpower being super strength, he’s still totally "en fuego". He is the sarcastic leader of a rag-tag shelter pack who must master their newfound powers and convince Krypto that they can help him save the Super-Heroes.
