Selena Gomez is keenly aware of her personal growth—and that she’s dated some duds in the past. Today, of course, she’s happily engaged. But recently, Selena Gomez made a raw confession about her relationship with Benny Blanco.

The 32-year-old “Lose You to Love Me” singer and her 36-year-old music producer beau started dating in mid-2023. In December of that year, they went public with their romance. Then on December 11, 2024, the happy couple announced their engagement.
Selena and Benny sat down for a joint interview in February 2025.
For an article published on February 14, the newly engaged couple sat down for a chat with Interview magazine. It was their first joint interview. During the sit-down, they talked about their relationship, working together on a new album, food, and more.
When asked for relationship advice, Selena subtly changed the subject.
After admitting that she doesn’t have “life figured out in any way,” Selena spoke about how Benny treats her.
“My perspective on it, in a simplistic way, is that I actually feel valued,” she explained. “I feel seen. I feel respected. And I think that’s all I’ve ever really wanted.”
Selena added, “I’ve kind of been alone in the world. I was alone for five years before we got together, and I think that really helped me appreciate someone like Ben.”

Timing, it seems, is everything, according to Selena.
“He gets so weirded out by me saying this,” she prefaced the confession. “But genuinely, 10 years ago, I wasn’t in a space in my life where I could have accepted the kind of patience, the kind of unconditional love that he gives me.”
However, Benny did offer some solid advice.
Selena may have been hesitant to dole out relationship advice, but Benny had a blunt tidbit to share.
“Happy wife, happy life. Shut the f— up and listen to your partner,” he said. “I don’t think people listen to their partner enough.”
Benny continued, “I think in general, men are not listening to their partner enough. And treat people the way you want to be treated. Find your best friend and don’t settle. That’s my best friend right there.”
Selena and Benny’s new album comes out on March 21.

When asked if they were scared to work together as a couple—they weren’t dating when they previously collaborated—Benny explained, “We said at the beginning, ‘If this ever is weird, we cancel it f—ing immediately.’”
Meanwhile, Selena shared, “I definitely didn’t feel any sort of pressure. I was maybe just nervous with jitters in the beginning, and then slowly but surely it was happening and it sort of fell into place with a lot of hard work and love.”
