Selena Gomez is thinking of skipping this ubiquitous wedding tradition & we totally approve

Selena Gomez and her fiancé, music producer Benny Blanco, were recently the guests of honor on an episode of the podcast Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, where they talked about food and their love story. In the course of their conversation, Selena shared one particular wedding tradition — they’ve been engaged since December 2024 — that she isn’t really planning on doing because she’s “embarrassed.” Can you guess what it is?

No, it’s not the wedding garter or bouquet toss, which let’s be honest can be quite embarrassing and even cringe at times. It’s the couple’s first dance and I’m shocked because never in a million years would I have guessed that a billionaire superstar like Selena would be embarrassed to have all eyes on her while she dances with her new husband, but it’s true.

Check out what she and Benny had to say about it.

‘Have you chosen the music for your first dance?’ the couple was asked.

“I don’t think we’re looking at having one of those ’cause they’re a little…,” Selena trailed off.

 “She’s shy,” Benny interjected.

 “I feel embarrassed,” Selena explained.

WHAT?!

Can we talk about how crazy it is that a woman who has performed in concert stadiums for thousands of people is embarrassed to dance with her beloved at her own wedding? It just goes to show that a celebrity’s public persona may not be like who they really are in everyday life.

Despite her shyness, she does plan on having a ‘special dance’ with her grandfather.

“He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle. Because, good for my mom, she decided to go to Vegas and be like, ‘Whoo,’ and she’s still been with him ever since they were like 26,” Selena explained before adding, “So it’s very cute that they did that, but I wanted to give [my grandfather] the opportunity to have that.”

What about the hora?

They may not perform the typical couple’s dance, but they will do the traditional hora dance, where the newlyweds sit on chairs and are lifted into the air while guests dance around them, in honor of Benny’s Jewish heritage.

“I’ve got to be honest, it looks so cute and adorable but I was like, ‘What? I have to depend on just something like [a chair]?” she joked when asked about whether they would be doing the hora.

Whether or not Selena and Benny end up doing a first dance at their wedding, I wish them a lifetime of many dances together.

Just look at how dang cute they are together!
