Breaking News: Selena Gomez has breasteses and the internet is shocked to find out that just like the overwhelming majority of non-famous humans, she also has nipples. Yes, believe it or not, unlike a Barbie doll, she is anatomically complete. I always assumed she was, but now we know because of a photo she shared that maybe shows a teeny tiny part of the areola on one of her breasts. She probably didn’t even notice it when she posted a couple of stunningly steamy pictures of herself in a strapless black bra on Saturday.

But the internet zoomed in and noticed and OMG the reactions to a little bit of darker skin peeking over her bra have been extensive. How dare she! The shame! The scandal! The audacity. I’m being sarcastic in case that’s not coming through. I just can’t with people using the power of zoom on online pictures just to find something to be scandalized about. How did Selena react to the uproar her “near wardrobe malfunction” as many publications are calling it? Let me tell you!
Selena posted a couple of selfies on Saturday, no big deal.
Except they turned into a big deal because some zoomed in and noticed that maybe, just maybe a bit of darker skin was peeking out of her strapless bra. Kind of not even noticeable if you don’t zoom in like some kind of detective on the hunt for missing nipples.
OMG, the ensuing headlines make it seem like she should be so embarrassed.

Really? She should be embarrassed, not the editors that chose these headlines?
Everyone, relax!
It’s not that big of a deal. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before on a beach and a lot less than we see on a typical Hollywood red carpet event. I’m sure she had no idea what a reaction it would cause or that there was even anything.
Cue the peanut gallery.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) used the zoom function to examine the photo to the point that they noticed a needle mark on her arm and tried to be punny and imply that it was a track mark from drug usage. UGH!
Fortunately, not everyone online is a pervy cynic.
Other X users came to Selena’s defense and explaining that the “Love” on singer has medical issues related to lupus and receiving a kidney transplant, which require her to get blood tests and other treatments.
In October 2015, Selena shared her lupus diagnosis with ‘Billboard.’
“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” Selena told the publication. Since she took a break to go through her treatment and recover without saying why, the rumor mill decided it must be because she had addiction issues.
Of course, she was aware of what was being said about her and the reason for her absence because rumors like that spread fast, far, and wide. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re [expletive].’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Back to the current non-scandal.
Selena deleted the pictures of herself in that bra. She did not explain why she deleted them, she just did. Maybe the motivation to delete them wasn’t the reaction they’ve garnered, but come on, it probably was!
I hope Selena also sees how many supporters she has.
Our brains are wired to focus on the negative, which is why the trauma of a negative comment or experience stays with us so much longer than the joy of a compliment or lived experience. Still, I hope Selena is spending more time noticing how many fans and supporters she has than how many detractors are zooming in to find something to cause a fuss about.
Just keep being you, Selena. You may not be for everyone, but you inspire so many with your talent, vulnerability, and strength. For the record, you looked stunning in those photos. It sucks that you felt like you had to delete them.
