On January 18, Deadline reported that Disney Branded Television ordered a pilot for a Wizards of Waverly Place revival. Not only will Selena and David appear on the show (she as a guest star and he as a series regular) but they will also serve as executive producers. David took to Instagram on January 18 to announce the reboot was officially happening. He posted a photo of the cover of the pilot's script, writing, “The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we’ve grown 2024, the year magic comes back! ” Among the excited comments, his on-screen dad, David DeLuise, wrote, “Reboot?”

Folks on social media are excited about the reboot.

Plenty of fans on X (formerly Twitter) were thrilled with the Wizards of Waverly Place revival news. One person exclaimed, “OKAY NOBODY PANIC THE WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE IS COMING BACK?!”

Still, some were less than thrilled that a non-wizard Justin and his family will be the main focus instead of Alex. Someone tweeted, “Wizards of Waverly Place reboot except it’s only about Justin and also he isn’t a wizard anymore plus he’s old.”

Meanwhile another person pointed out, “So in the new Wizards of Waverly Place sequel show you’re telling me that Justin doesn’t end up with Juilet after everything Justin did and went through to get her back?"
