A video showed the moment Inessa fell.
A chilling video obtained by the Daily Mail shows the moment Inessa lost her balance. In the clip, recorded on April 7, Inessa appeared to be taking a photo of a man on a narrow beam. She slowly backed up, lost her footing, and toppled over the edge. The man rushed toward her and looked down in disbelief before climbing back to safe ground, alerting someone else, and rushing to where she fell.
Another gruesome clip shows her body lying on the beach below.
A clip shared by The Sun shows the aftermath of the fall. In the video, witnesses show a body sprawled on the beach from the vantage point of the height from which Inessa fell. The body is blurred—but the reality of the situation is still sickening.
She was rushed to a hospital, but died that same day.
Inessa was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Abkhazia. Although doctors "fought for her life," per the Daily Mail, she died in the intensive care unit that same day. Her funeral was held on April 8, The Mirror reported.
Inessa was a beautician.
As the Mirror reported, Inessa was a beautician. She served clients in Moscow and the Russian resort town of Sochi, where she also lived. On Instagram, Inessa had 9,000 followers and regularly posted selfies from her travels.
The beam where Inessa died has posed a safety risk for decades.
It's worth noting that the platform from which Inessa fell was next to the official Gagry viewing point—which has safety railings, the Daily Mail reported. Instead, she stood in a structure from an abandoned construction site next to the viewing point. Unfortunately, many tourists have risked their lives there for the sake of a photo.
"How much talk there has been about this place. So many warnings," a man named Amirkhan Karikh said, per the publication. "Useless. Fifteen years ago, a woman also almost fell, she was lucky."
He added: "This building has been around since Soviet times. It needs to be dismantled."
An investigation into Inessa's death is reportedly underway, per The Sun.
