Those who read Mariah Carey's 2020 memoir already know the pop superstar has complicated relationships with her immediate family. Through the years, the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" singer and her mother, Patricia Carey, have had many ups and downs. And reportedly, Mariah didn't even reach out to her sister, Alison Carey, even though she knew for a month that she was dying.

Mariah's parents were Patricia and Alfred Roy Carey, and they divorced when she was 3. In addition to the "Fantasy" singer, they welcomed a daughter, Alison, and a son, Morgan Carey. Alfred died in 2022 but recently, Mariah lost both her mom and her sister.
Recently, Mariah confirmed her mom and sister both died on the same day.

On August 26, Mariah confirmed that her mother and sister had died on the same day. "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend," she said in a statement via People. "Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."
Alison was reportedly 'unhappy' about Mariah cutting contact and wondered if she would attend her funeral.

In the wake of Alison's death, her friend and caretaker, David Baker, spoke out about her and Mariah's relationship over the past month.
"Alison was unhappy that her 'baby sister' had cut off contact with her," he told The U.S. Sun. "She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral."
Reportedly, Mariah did not reach out to her sister, even though she knew for a month she was dying.

"Mariah has never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying," Baker told The U.S. Sun. "A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came."
But the pop star was at her mom's side when she died.
In her statement, Mariah revealed that despite their complicated relationship, she was by her mom's side during her final days. "I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed," she told People. But Mariah did not say the same about Alison.
Both Alison and Morgan filed lawsuits against Mariah in 2021.
TMZ reported that Alison's addiction drove a wedge between Mariah and Alison. However, another point of contention between Mariah and her siblings was her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, released in September 2020. Both Alison and Morgan filed defamation lawsuits against their younger sister alleging they suffered emotional distress.
Mariah thanked fans for their support and requested privacy.
As of writing, Patricia and Alison's causes of death have not been publicly shared. Mariah has not addressed the status of her relationships with them, either.
"I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," she told People.
