The Kardashian-Jenner family loves making bold impressions. Whether it’s through fashion, advertising, or drama from their reality show, they always command the spotlight. And recently, Kim Kardashian‘s giant inflatable Skims ad elicited strong reactions from critics.
In 2014, Kim nearly broke the internet with a Paper magazine cover photo of her balancing a glass of champagne on her ample backside. Her 2021 Met Gala look covered the reality star from head to toe in fabric—and yet, everyone still knew it was her. Most recently, Kim turned heads with a blow-up replica of herself in New York City.

On March 4, a giant blow-up doll of Kim suddenly showed up in Times Square in New York City. The display featured a 60-foot “Kim” lying on her side in a blue bikini on a platform. It served as an ad for her new Skims Swim line.
Some compared it to Kim’s niece Stormi’s birthday party.

On Reddit, some critics said the blow-up doll reminded them of another epic Kar-Jenner moment—when Kylie Jenner threw her daughter, Stormi Webster, a “Stormiwold” themed birthday party in February 2020.
“It’s giving …” one person wrote alongside a photo of an inflatable of Stormi’s head with a gaping mouth people could walk into.
Another replied, “What is it with this family and creepy inflatables of themselves lol.”
Someone else speculated, “Kim wanted Stormiworld’s nachos 😕.”
Others criticized Kim’s parenting and influence.

Other Reddit users were upset by the revealing display, with one calling it “so inappropriate.”
Another hater wrote: “A blow up doll. Kim. Your kids are embarrassed.”
Yet another pointed out, “Lmao and American conservatives will say it’s the drag queens exposing kids to sexuality 🙄 This is obscene lol.”
Meanwhile, many others just thought the blow-up doll was weird.

Basically, critics found all sorts of reasons to slam Kim for the Skims ad.
A different Reddit user declared, “I’m all up for camp advertisement but this is tacky.”
Someone else agreed, writing, “Usually the Skims marketing department does not miss but I don’t know about this one.”
“Byeee this looks weird af,” yet another commented.
Meanwhile, one Redditor pointed out, “If there’s not security literally guarding this it’s going to be covered in obscenities so soon 😭.”
She also promoted the swimwear line on Instagram.
In addition to the super-sized inflatable version of herself showing up in the Big Apple, Kim posted about her swimwear line on social media. She took to Instagram on March 4 with a video of herself wearing an identical blue bikini. For the clip, she posed sensually on a beach as “The Color Violet” by Tory Lanez played.
On March 3, Kim posted a carousel of photos of herself rocking a leopard-print bikini via Instagram.
“Coming March 6: New Swim Shop,” she captioned the update. “Three years after its breakout launch, the game-changing swim that started it all is back to break the internet (again).”
