Jennifer Lopez’s twins Max & Emme celebrate 16th birthday with Japan trip—see the photos

If it seems just like yesterday when Jennifer Lopez welcomed twins, Max and Emme, with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, then you're in for a harsh reality check. That's because J.Lo's children aren't babies anymore. In fact, Max and Emme recently turned 16—and their superstar mama took them on a trip to Japan to celebrate.

On February 22, 2008, Jennifer gave birth to twins, Maximilian "Max" David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz. The "Get Right" singer and Marc separated in 2011 and finalized their divorce in 2014. Since then, the parents have had joint custody of the twins, and fans have periodically gotten glimpses of them on J.Lo's social media accounts and during her concerts.

J.Lo posted photos and video clips from the twins' 16th birthday trip to Japan.

On February 23, the mom of two took to Instagram to share videos and photos of her trip to Japan to celebrate Max and Emme's 16th birthday. "16 Birthday trip 2024 ," she captioned the montage, using coconut emojis to represent the nickname she uses for her kids. Fittingly, the post was set to her song, "Hummingbird."

Max and Emme were 'so excited' about the birthday trip.

The beginning of the montage featured a close-up video of Emme talking to the camera. "I've never seen Max so excited," someone (perhaps J.Lo.) said off camera said. Emme then declared, "I've never seen myself so excited."

They got to cuddle piglets.

As part of their birthday activities, Max and Emme had the opportunity to get hands-on with some adorable animals. One clip toward the beginning showed Emme with two piglets on their lap. They had a huge smile on their face as they snuggled them in their arms.

J.Lo and the twins wore kimonos and made a Japanese dish.

Another clip showed Max, Emme, and Jennifer sitting on the floor wearing what appeared to be traditional Japanese clothing. They sat next to other people in what seemed to be a class where they stirred something in a bowl. It's unclear what, exactly, J.Lo and her twins made—but they appeared to enjoy the immersive experience.

In another photo, Emme grinned next to a life-sized statue of a character named Luffy from the anime One Piece. They wore a blue Pokémon shirt in the shot as they grinned in what looked like a store. Hopefully, they were able to snag some One Piece merch while they were there!

Meanwhile, Max posed next to a Pokémon poster.

Max preferred to pose in front of a Pokémon mural during their Japan trip. In the photo, he crouched down on the floor while pointing behind him to images of Dragonite, Tyranitar, and more. (Gotta catch 'em all!)

They enjoyed some Japanese cuisine.

Yet another photo showed the "Let's Get Loud" singer and her kids at a restaurant in Japan. Max, Emme, and J.Lo sat at a high-top table while smiling for the camera and seemingly enjoying sushi. Judging by a different clip in the Instagram post, the sushi was freshly made right in front of them.

Of course, the twins had birthday cakes in Japan.

Another picture Jennifer included showed two birthday cakes. One cake featured a lot of sprinkles with a tree decoration. A bridge connected it to the second cake, which had a person on it. Each cake had a sign that read "Happy Birthday," with more writing too small to be deciphered. So cute!

Max and J.Lo posed for an adorable photo.

He may be 16, but Max isn't too old for his mama to plant a kiss on his cheek. In one of the many photos, J.Lo. smooched her son while holding an umbrella. Both mother and son sported kimonos, too.

J.Lo walked hand-in-hand with Emme in Japan.

Another sweet photo showed Jennifer and Emme from behind as they were walking. They held hands while strolling down a street in Japan. Where were they off to next?

The twins posed together with their mom in front of a colorful backdrop.

In Jennifer's post, she and the twins visited a place where they were surrounded by screens displaying colorful, moving backdrops. They took the opportunity to stop for a picture with all three of them. In the shot, J.Lo leaned against Emme while smiling and looking up as Emme and Max smiled next to her.

J.Lo. included photos of the sights.

Another photo showed a wide-angled shot of some of the buildings and people during their Japan trip. The shot featured women walking away from the camera wearing kimonos and carrying umbrellas. A couple of colorful buildings stood near them with skyscrapers in the background.

Toward the end of J.Lo's post, she included a photo of the twins sitting at a table surrounded by food and balloons. A set of "16" balloons was featured in the background as Max and Emme posed for the camera. An animation of exploding confetti perfectly framed the moment.

The post concluded with a birthday shoutout.

"Happy birthday to my coconuts," Jennifer wrote on the final slide of the video. "I love you." She also incorporated hummingbirds in the background.

J.Lo posted selfies from Japan, too.

One day before J.Lo posted the twins' birthday trip update, she shared a trio of selfies via Instagram. "Konnichiwa ♾️," she captioned the post. The mom of two posed confidently in the photos while wearing a puffy off-white coat with a gray turtleneck and silver sunglasses.

Clearly, Max and Emme's trip to Japan a blast for all involved. Happy birthday!
