Jenna Ortega’s transformation from Disney girl to ‘Beetlejuice’ star

Jenna Ortega has undergone an impressive transformation over the past decade. As a child star, the actress, who has Mexican and Puerto Rican roots, burst onto the Disney Channel scene in several major shows. Fast-forward to today, and the 21-year-old has already starred in many hit series and movies.

Jenna portrayed Harley Diaz in Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle from 2016 to 2018. At the same time, she voiced Princess Isabel in the animated Disney show Elena of Avalor from 2016 to 2020. Today, Jenna is most well known for starring as the titular character in the smash hit Netflix series Wednesday, as well as leading roles in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), as well as in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024).

Jenna Ortega's style was exactly what you'd expect during her Disney stardom.

The above photo of Jenna was taken at the premiere of Trolls in October 2016. For the event, the 14-year-old donned a simple black dress with black-and-white checkered shoes. She wore her hair in a braid for the event the same year as both Stuck in the Middle and Elena of Avalor premiered on Disney Channel.

She was still in her Disney era in 2018, but looking a little more grown up.

Above, Jenna posed for photos for the premiere of Disney's Christopher Robin in July 2018. She rocked a light peach tiered gown that allowed more mature cutouts while still remaining modest. At this point, Jenna was still busy with Stuck in the Middle and Elena of Avalor</em>; she also appeared in one episode of Disney Channel's Bizaardvark.

In 2020, Jenna's style looked decidedly more mature.

For obvious reasons (global pandemic and all), Jenna didn't make many public appearances in 2020. The above photo shows her at the InStyle Golden Globe After Party that January. Jenna rocked a gold semi-sheer dress that was particularly see-through in the legs as she exited her Disney child stardom. Career-wise, Jenna was busy with The Babysitter: Killer Queen and Yes Day.

Jenna's 'Wednesday' era marked a drastic style change.

In November 2022, Jenna attended the world premiere of Netflix's Wednesday in Los Angeles. Her style dramatically changed into a gothic bride aesthetic for the event. She rocked a black flowy gown with a deep leg slit, dark eye makeup, and a black veil — a definite departure from her Disney days.

At the 2023 Met Gala, Jenna kept the gothic schoolgirl vibes going.

Jenna wowed at the 2023 Met Gala. The theme that year was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty," and the Wednesday actress kept the gothic vibes going with her style choices. Jenna wore a black corset top with a large asymmetrical ruffled skirt and a black jacket. The look featured gold chain and pearl details, as well as a black bowtie.

For a 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' premiere, Jenna looked stunning in red.

On August 28, 2024, Jenna walked the red carpet at the Venice International Film Festival ahead of the September 6 release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She rocked a stunning backless red look reminiscent of the wedding dress her onscreen mom Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) wore in the original 1988 film. The gown's top featured layers that formed a heart, reaching to her navel, while the tulle skirt was partially see-through.
