Through the past two decades, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has consistently been ranked among the most wealthy people in not only the U.S. but the entire world. So you can imagine that any time his relationship status changes, it's a huge deal in the news cycle. This is exactly what happened when it was announced that Jeff is now engaged to a woman named Lauren Sánchez.

Jeff was previously married to MacKenzie Scott for 25 years; they share four children but divorced in 2019. MacKenzie walked away with $38.3 billion in the divorce settlement and has vowed to donate the vast majority of her wealth to charity.
Naturally, folks are curious to learn more about Jeff's new fiancée. Let's take a closer look at who she is, along with what we know about their engagement—and, of course, the ring!
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are engaged!
In late May 2023, news broke that the Amazon founder, 59, and the Emmy-winning journalist, 53, are engaged. Jeff and Lauren were vacationing in the South of France and were photographed attending the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon at the Cannes Festival, People reported. Photos of Lauren donning a large diamond ring confirmed their engagement.

As Page Six reported, Lauren was spotted wearing a ring on that finger on May 21. She and Jeff were photographed on his $500 million yacht, Koru. Ajay Anand of Rare Carat spoke with the publication about what the engagement ring might be worth. Referring to the ring as an "absolute monster," Ajay estimated it to be roughly 20 carats and worth $2.5 million.
Who is Lauren Sánchez?
Previously, Lauren worked as a journalist, including as a special correspondent for Extra, an anchor for Good Day L.A. (for which she won an Emmy Award in 1999), and an anchor for Fox Sports Net (where she was nominated for an Emmy), among other gigs. She has also appeared in movies such as Fight Club, The Day After Tomorrow, We Bought a Zoo, Fantastic Four, and more.
Lauren is also a helicopter pilot. In 2016, she left journalism to found Black Ops Aviation, the first female-owned aerial film and production company. She also works to raise awareness for and fight climate change. Over on Instagram, you can find her promoting sustainable/green solutions alongside Jeff.
Jeff and Lauren's affair prompted his divorce from MacKenzie Scott.
On January 6, 2019, Jeff and Lauren were sighted together at a Golden Globes Awards after-party. Jeff and then-wife MacKenzie proceeded to announce their divorce just three days later. In a joint statement, they tweeted, "As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," they wrote, noting they'd "do it all again" despite the outcome. "Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends."
Lauren announced her divorce the exact same day.
On January 9 of that year—the same day Jeff and MacKenzie announced their divorce—Lauren and her husband of nearly 15 years, Patrick Whitesell, also revealed they were divorcing. The couple share two kids and reportedly had separated a year prior. Lauren also has a son with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez. Patrick, a talent agent, transferred their $6.2 million Washington home to Lauren after their divorce was finalized, according to Page Six.
Hopefully, Jeff and Lauren have an ironclad prenup in place before they officially tie the knot. Because you just never know.
