Sofia Richie is going to be a mom! On January 25, the model revealed she and her husband, Elliot Grainge, are expecting their first child. She also opened up with Vogue about how she found out she was pregnant.

Sofia is most well known as a model and social media personality. She has been a part of several fashion campaigns for luxury brands. She is the daughter of musical legend Lionel Richie and the younger sister of Nicole Richie. She also dated reality TV personality Scott Disick for several years.
Sofia shared with ‘Vogue’ how she found out she was pregnant.
In an interview with Vogue, Sofia shared that she learned she was pregnant “very, very early” early on—at about four weeks along. “I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag,” she explained of a trip she took to Milan for Fashion Week in September 2023.
When she returned to Los Angeles, Sofia decided to take a pregnancy test ahead of a “boozy night” at an Ed Sheeran concert—and when it came back as a faint positive, she had her husband run to the store for more tests. All were positive!
“He was so excited, and we both cried,” she told Vogue. “It was crazy and overwhelming and so hard not to scream it from the rooftops.”
When is Sofia’s due date?
Sofia is about six months along—meaning her due date is likely sometime in May. (Give or take a few weeks.) So, why did the expecting mama wait so long to announce her pregnancy?
“Pregnancy is really scary,” she explained. “I didn’t realize there are so many milestones you have to hit and so many tests you have to take. For me, it was really important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”
Sofia also revealed the gender of her baby.
Although both Sofia and Elliot predicted they were having a boy, their first child is actually a girl. “We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock,” she told Vogue. “My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl, too."
Sofia announced her pregnancy via Instagram, too.
On January 25, Sofia took to Instagram with a surprise for her followers. She shared a pair of black-and-white photos of herself wearing nothing but a suit jacket and unbuttoned pants that showcased her bare midsection. “Our hearts are filled with so much love!” she wrote. “So thankful for all of your support! Can’t wait for this next chapter of life .”
Celebs and regular folks alike reacted to her pregnancy announcement.
Naturally, Instagram users flooded Sofia’s post with congratulatory messages.
Proud soon-to-be grandpa, Lionel Richie, commented, “❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Meanwhile, Emily in Paris actress Lily Collins wrote, “Sooooo excited for you both!!!”
Rapper Ice Spice wrote, “ .”
Another Instagram user declared, “Ok baby grainge is about to break the internet .”
“I want to be reincarnated as this baby,” someone else commented.
Sofia doesn’t plan to post photos of her baby on Instagram.
Although Sofia shares regular life updates with her Instagram followers, fans shouldn’t expect her to post a ton of pictures of her daughter after she’s born. “I want my child to be a child, I’m not going to publicize my child on Instagram,” she told Vogue. “I don’t plan to take that approach because I want my kid to have the option to do what she wants with her life. If she wants to be a private person, I want her to be able to make that choice, and if she wants to be a public person, she can make that choice for herself.”
