Chrissy Teigen & John Legend welcome baby via surrogate months after having rainbow baby

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend welcomed their rainbow baby girl Esti Maxine Stephens on January 13, 2023. And then, “just minutes before” June 19, the couple—who are also parents to daughter Luna and son Miles—welcomed a baby boy, Wren Alexander Stephens, via surrogate. Does that make Wren a double rainbow baby since he was born just five months after Esti?

Esti and Wren’s births come over two years after Chrissy and John had to make the extremely difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy of their son Jack at 20 weeks because he had no chance of survival and Chrissy’s life was at stake. Chrissy shared the story of Wren’s birth via social media and it’s beautiful. Check out what she had to say and for some adorable pics of baby Wren!

Chrissy has always wanted four children.

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted four children,” Chrissy shared via Instagram on June 28. As went on to say that “after losing Jack” she didn’t think she would be able to carry any more babies herself, so in 2021, she reached out to a surrogacy agency.

But then what about Esti?

Well, at some point while they were on their search for a surrogate, Chrissy told John that she wanted to try to carry a baby one more time and they restarted the IVF process, which is also how they were able to have Luna and Miles. The process went well and that’s how Esti came to be.

Meanwhile, they met a surrogate that was a ‘perfect match.'

“Around this same time, we also met the most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine, Alexandra,” Chrissy continued. “I wanted to be her friend, I wanted our children to play, I wanted dinner together, I wanted to lay my head on her belly and be able to feel the hiccups and kicks.”

While Chrissy was ‘enjoying her first trimester’ Alexandra became pregnant.

Apparently, the first embryo that they tried with the surrogate didn’t survive, but the story, as you know has a very happy ending.

“I laid around, enjoying the first trimester of my pregnancy, with of course a little bit of fear that isn’t any different from any other expecting couple. As we crept toward the safe zone of my own pregnancy, we were overjoyed to learn Alexandra had become pregnant with a little boy.”

Chrissy was able to witness the birth of her son.

“Just minutes before midnight on June 19th, I got to witness the most beautiful woman, my friend, our surrogate, give birth amidst a bit of chaos, but with strength and pure joy and love,” Chrissy wrote.

The baby’s name will forever keep him connected to the surrogate.

“We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra. And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens,” explained Chrissy.
