On Saturday, September 14, exes Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were spotted reuniting for brunch along with their kids at the Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. This despite the fact that it hasn’t even been a month since Jen filed for divorce from the Argo star. According to eyewitnesses, the former couple known as Bennifer sat at one table while their kids sat at another. But, wait, there’s more.

You would think that since they are in the process of getting legally divorced that the relationship between Jen and Ben would be tepid at best, but reports are saying that things got heated between them and not in an unaffectionate way. Ugh, I was just getting used to the idea of living in a post-Bennifer 2.0 world and now I don’t know which way is up with these two.

Supposedly getting together for brunch was Ben’s idea.
Jen’s twins, Emme and Max, are close to two of Ben’s kids, Seraphina and Samuel. The kids joined Ben and Jen for brunch, but sat at a separate table than the grown-ups. One could assume that the exes just reunited for a meal for the sake of the kids, but…
Why have a meetup at such a public place?
“It was Ben Affleck’s idea to meet there,” a source told Page Six. “He wanted to show that they are friendly exes.” You should know that the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel is not a place celebrities go to hide.
“He wanted those photos,” the source told Page Six. “You go there when you want to be seen. Paparazzi hang out there.” Oh, and you better believe that they were seen and photographed.
“Once they were together, he could not keep his hands off,” the source said. The source added: “They have always had a lot of sexual chemistry. That was not planned. They are still attracted to one another.”
Oh, and Jen was wearing the engagement ring Ben gave her.
She was wearing it on her pinky, though, but still. You would think she wouldn’t want to wear it at all given that they are in the middle of getting a divorce. Jen filed for divorce on August 20, the second anniversary of their lavish Georgia wedding.
If they are brunching together, are they still getting divorced?
Seems like. “They all came together for a fun lunch so the kids could hang out,” a source told People. “[Jennifer's] trying to be friendly with Ben. They are still moving forward with the divorce though. They are working out financial details amicably.”
“A divorce is never easy, but Jennifer doesn't want to be selfish about it. The kids always got along and have fun together. It makes her happy seeing the kids happy together. Happy kids are her priority,” the source added.
OK, but why are they toying with my heart?
I know their relationship isn’t about me, but I can’t help it. I’ve always wanted them to work out, even back when they first became Bennifer in 2002 and then got engaged. When they broke off before making it to the altar in 2004, I was bummed for them.
When they got back together after almost 20 years and got married in 2022, they made me believe that a Hollywood ending might be possible for a true-life Hollywood couple. Then just two short years later, Jen filed for divorce and I felt like a fool for being sure the second time around would stick.
And now, now what?
Now, Ben is setting up brunch get-togethers where they can be photographed together and seen smooching. Yes, smooching! At least that’s what someone told Page Six: “Ben and J.Lo are currently at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel holding hands and kissing. The kids are with them, but at a separate table.”
I can’t with this back and forth. My hopelessly romantic heart cannot take it anymore.
