Demi Lovato calls out a publication for saying she has a ‘fuller figure’

Demi Lovato has been through too much to let one negative headline shake her. The singer used her massive platform to call out a media outlet for using "fuller figure" to describe her in a headline and spoke out about how damaging that type of language could be for other people dealing with body image issues.

The "Confident" singer took to Instagram Stories on Friday, March 29, with a screenshot of the article and gave the website a piece of her mind. While Demi is known to be outspoken and opinionated about issues that matter to her, especially when it comes to body image, this time she took a gentler approach and seemed a lot more sure of herself!

Demi shared a screenshot of the headline.

Demi has been through a lot this past year, from suffering an overdose in July 2018 and having to spend months in a rehab facility. Since she left the facility in November, she has returned to her physical activities that she has been practicing for years. The Inquisitr headline said that she "appears to have a fuller figure" after she finished working out. Demi responded saying, "I am more than my weight."

After sharing the article, Demi made a powerful statement about why language like this is so damaging.

Demi showed a lot of growth in her response, and while she was easily hurt by those type of messages in the past, now she is more concerned about how they affect others dealing with body image issues. "Unlike the past, I'm not triggered, I'm not upset that someone wrote a headline about my 'fuller figure.' I'm angry that people think it's okay to write headlines about people's body shapes," she wrote in a post on Instagram. "Especially a woman who has been so open about being in recovery from an eating disorder. I'm not upset for myself but for anyone easily influenced by the diet culture."

Demi Lovato reminded her fans that they are more than a number on a scale.

"Too many people today base their ideal body weight off of what OTHERS tell us we should look like or weigh. Articles like these only contribute to that toxic way of thinking," she said in a following post. "If you're reading this: Don't listen to negative diet culture talk. You are more than a number on a scale and I am more than a headline about my body shape."

The singer even took the time to have a conversation with the writer about it.

Instead of responding negatively, Demi had a conversation with writer Fabio Magnocavallo, who wrote the headline, and expressed her thoughts about how harmful this could be for others. He was super apologetic and she suggested he write an article about their interaction. She then added another post that said, "Change is made by raising your voice, speaking your truth and spreading love and compassion, not hate."

She ended her message with a positive affirmation for her fans.

"Now my fuller ass is going to sleep," she wrote along with laughing emojis, "Goodnight guys..I love you so much. Don't forget to tell yourself how beautiful and worthy you are of a happy and healthy life." This definitely shows so much growth coming from Demi and we couldn't be prouder. She has dealt with eating disorders, like bulimia, in the past and it's a constant battle she has to face. The songstress has made so many strides by finding ways to release those feelings, like jiujitsu, which also helps her stay active and have more control over her mind and body.
