‘Rebelde’ Netflix reboot: Where is the cast of the original series now?

The phenomenon that was Rebelde first aired on television back in 2004! Can you believe it's been that long? RBD, the band from the novela, became the best-selling Latin pop group of all time. In 2018, the show's director, Pedro Damián, released a documentary about the group's incredible journey. Anahí, Dulce María, Maite Perroni, Alfonso Herrera, Christopher von Uckermann, and Christian Chávez made up the band that became RBD, and they toured all around the world together even after the telenovela was over. Rebelde ended in 2006, and RBD broke up in 2009, but both the novela and the band were such a huge hit that they have not been forgotten—and neither have the performers. Actually, everything about Rebelde is so well-remembered and beloved that there will be a Rebelde Netflix reboot in 2022.

More from MamásLatinas: All about the cast of the 'Rebelde' reboot coming to Netflix

The actors from the original series have all gone on to different projects and built new lives since the show wrapped. We've seen some of the stars become parents, go on to have successful solo careers, and even cross over into the US market. No matter how far they go, though, they will always be known as those fun-loving, crazy kids we all met back in the halls of the fictional Elite Way School (EWS). In 2021, when it was announced that a new class of students was accepted to EWS and we would all get to know them via the Rebelde reboot scheduled to air on Netflix in 2022, Rebelde fans everywhere got very excited. Still, as excited as we are about the new Rebelde cast, we will never forget the original cast, and so we thought we'd take a stroll down memory lane and look into where the cast members of Rebelde are now.

Anahí played the hilarious, and sometimes annoying, Mía Colucci on the show.

In the Rebelde cast, she was the rich girl with tons of attitude, but fans loved her anyway, or at least loved to hate her. What's crazy is that years after the show was over, Anahí shared via her podcast in 2019 that Televisa didn't really want to give her the part.

Anahí is now a mother of two!

After continuing her career as a singer and actress for several years following her Rebelde success, Anahí married Manuel Velasco Coello, who was the governor of Chiapas in Mexico, in April 2015. The pair welcomed their adorable son, Manuel, in 2017, and in 2020, they became parents to Emiliano.

Christian Chávez played Juan 'Giovanni' Méndez López in the series.

Christian played the rich and not-so-wonderful Giovanni on Rebelde. Back in 2007, while he was still in the band RBD, a magazine threatened to out him with photos of him exchanging rings with his boyfriend, so he decided to come out as gay.

Christian has kept busy throughout the years.

Clearly, he spends quite a bit of time with his cute niece and working out. Between workouts, he's continued to work on projects, including Like, la leyenda and La Casa de las Flores, which currently ranks as one of the best Netflix series produced in Latin America. In 2011, he also partnered with Anahí to record the song "Libertad."

Dulce María played the feisty Roberta Pardo Rey.

Not only did people love the character's personality, but her red hair became a trend, because LOOK AT IT! When RBD broke up, Dulce continued to act and sing, with a bit more emphasis on the singing part of her career.

Dulce María lost the red hair, but she's still using that voice of hers.

Dulce María became a mom and continues to sing, only now she does it solo. She released her third studio album, DM, in March 2017 and hit the road that same month for the DM World Tour. She has also made time to appear in telenovelas such as Verano de Amor and will soon premiere in one of the best Netflix series of the moment, Falsa Identidad 2.

Maite Perroni's character was the sweetest!

Guadalupe "Lupita" Fernández was such an adorable character. Maite did a great job of portraying the shy Lupita with a big heart who wasn't a fan of confrontations. Lupita, who was well-liked, was able to attend EWS thanks to a scholarship.

Maite has been busy, busy, busy.

Maite continued her acting career since RBD in various hit novelas, and she has also continued singing. She's acted in Cuidado con el ángel, Mi pecado, Triunfo del Amor, and others. In 2016, she won the best actress award at Premios TVyNovelas for her starring role in Antes muerta que Lichita.

Alfonso Herrera played Miguel.

Alfonso stole all of our teenage hearts as Miguel in the Rebelde cast. Why? Because he was a good guy with a great heart, even though he decided to avenge the death of his father. Miguel, like Lupita, attended EWS via scholarship.

Alfonso has aged rather nicely.

He's been acting in some English-language projects since his time as an RBD member, including Queen of the South. He's got a salt-and-pepper look that really works for him, and he's as handsome as ever, if not more.

Angelique Boyer looked like a different person with that platinum blond hair.

On the show, she played the role of Victoria "Vico" Paz, who was Mia's best friend. Vico's family background left her feeling insecure and unloved to the point that she was using pills to try to escape her feelings.

Angelique Boyer is still acting and looks better than ever.

She became a huge telenovela star after starring in Rebelde. She's had the lead role in novelas such as Tres veces AnaAbismo de pasión, and Lo que la vida me robó. Romantically, she's been involved with actor and model Sebastián Rulli since 2014.

Christopher Von Uckermann played cutie Diego Bustamante.

Diego was the most popular boy at EWS, even though his father was a shady politician. Truth be told, Diego ended up doing some rather shady things, too, including trying to drown someone.

Christopher is all grown up and still cute.

After the breakup of RBD, he released a solo album in 2010 called Somos. He also starred in the TV series Kdabra from 2009 to 2012, and he has had roles in several projects since. In the Rebelde Netflix reboot, Sergio Mayer Mori is expected to play the new Diego Bustamante, but who knows? Maybe he can portray the sweet and charismatic Diego, giving him the same spirit and energy that Christopher gave him in the past.

Zoraida Gómez played Jóse Luján Landeros.

Zoraida played Jóse Luján Landeros, who was raised in foster care because her rich mother couldn't be bothered to do the job. She was Lupita's and Roberta's good friend and shared a room with them.

Zoraida has added the role of mom to her résumé.

Zoraida continued acting after Rebelde wrapped, in projects including Like, la leyenda and Lo que podríamos ser. In 2020, she took on the real-life role of mommy to Maximiliano Torres Gómez.

Estefanía Villarreal played Celina Ferrer.

Celina was best friends with Vico and Mia. She was always insecure because of her weight, especially since the women in her family were all thin and constantly criticized her for not being slim. Sigh.

Estefanía is doing great and will be on the reboot.

Estefanía is the only original cast member who is reprising her role on the Rebelde Netflix reboot. Only this time around she is the principal of Elite Way School. That's right—Celina grew up and became the principal of the school she once attended. How fun is that? This might make the Rebelde reboot one of the best Netflix series to date.

And remember Ninel Conde on the show?

phupjxckws1.jpg

She played the role of Alma Rey, Roberta's mom, who was always getting attention because she was a famous model and singer. The attention she got would leave Roberta feeling a bit jealous at times.

Ninel continues to get a lot of attention in real life.

Ninel has continued acting, singing, and doing gigs as a television host. Also, she continues to turn heads wherever she goes. She was already a mom to Sofía Telch when she appeared in Rebelde, and in 2014 she became a mom for the second time to Emmanuel Medina.
