On September 29, Selena attended a Sabrina Carpenter concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Her Emilia Pérez costar, Edgar, joined her for the concert, among others. But a video Selena's friend, model Connar Franklin Carpenter, published (and since deleted) on TikTok caught fans' attention.
A video of them sensually dancing quickly circulated online.
As Sabrina performed "Espresso," Sabrina danced sensually in the video. Edgar eventually joined her by wrapping his arms around her from behind. The clip showed the costars getting suspiciously close for being just friends, according to some critics.
Some critics suggested Selena cheated on Benny.
On TikTok, one user reshared the dancing clip, writing, "Is Selena still with Benny? ."
A different person wondered in the comments, "What is going on here? ."
Meanwhile, someone else exclaimed, "WHATTT NOOOOOO," in response to Selena and Egar grinding at the concert.
Not long after, Selena directly addressed the backlash and speculation.
It wasn't long before Selena caught wind of fan reactions. She later shared a different clip via her Instagram Stories of her and Edgar dancing while sending a direct response to the haters. "Omg how dare I dance with my bestie," she captioned the update, per the Daily Mail.

On September 30, Selena and Edgar attended the Emilia Pérez premiere at the New York Film Festival. The event was held at the Alice Tully Hall in New York City. And Selena didn't shy away from getting cozy with her costar as they posed for photos on the red carpet.
At the premiere, Selena also opened up about her role in the film.
At the premiere, Selena opened up about portraying Jessi Del Monte in the Spanish-language musical crime comedy. Selena plays the wife of a fictional drug cartel leader, Emilia Pérez (played by Karla Sofía Gascón), who fakes his own death so he can "retire from his business and disappear forever by becoming the woman he's always dreamed of being," per IMDb.
“I really feel like this has been such a blessing in this movie,” Selena told Extra on September 30. “I hope people understand the meaning behind it and enjoy it, and I couldn’t be more grateful to Jacques for giving me this opportunity as an actor, so I hope this is just the beginning.”
Emilia Pérez will be available to stream on Netflix on November 13.
