Legendary Mexican actress Katy Jurado was honored with Google Doodle & we could not be prouder

We were so touched when we found out that today's Google Doodle is Mexican icon and actress Katy Jurado. This is a big deal for a number of reasons. For starters, Jurado paved the way for Latina actresses who followed. It's also really awesome to see Google highlighting a Latin icon of the past.

The animated image perfectly depicts the actress's beautiful big eyes and her look in the classic High Noon film.

"While she was stunningly beautiful, her portrayals transcended the stereotyped, over-sexualized roles written for Mexican women at the time," a post from Google regarding the Doodle read. "Her talent at depicting a range of characters helped to expand the parts available to Mexican and other Latinx actresses in Hollywood today." 

The actress would have been 94 today.

Katy Jurado wasn’t her birth name.

She started off in Mexican cinema.

Jurado became known in Mexican cinema for her role in the film Nosotros Los Pobres, which was released in 1948.

However, she soon became a household name.

Her performance in the 1952 Western film High Noon won her a Golden Globe, the first for any Latin American actress. She later became the first Latin American actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for her work in 1954's Broken Lance. Trailblazer!

She acted in Hollywood films even though she knew very little English.

The Mexican actresses has to deliver her lines by memorizing the way they sounded. Regardless, her performances were still very strong. How badass is that?

This is the artist who created her Google Doodle.

She is a Mexican artist who draws at Pixar.

We will never forget the legendary actress or her work.

She really did pave the way Latina actresses today and we couldn't be prouder! And so happy to see Google bring to light a Latina who paved the way for so many!
