15 Fun Christmas games the whole family can play

Christmas with friends and family can be so much fun—except when it isn’t—and let’s be real, sometimes it isn’t because the kids want to be on their devices, some guests don’t have the gift of gab, or that one tía is sitting in the living room giving everyone fuchi face. And that’s why it’s always a good idea to have Christmas games on hand. They get people of all ages talking and interacting.

Have you ever played the candy cane game?

It so simple and so fun. Basically, you need a whole bunch of candy canes, a bowl, and a mouth. You hold a candy cane in your mouth and use it to grab candy canes from a pile and then drop them in a bowl. Let’s say every player gets a minute in which to collect as many candy canes as they can in the bowl. Whoever collects the most, wins.

Charades, but make them Christmas-themed.

Just in case you’ve never played charades, usually it’s played by dividing a larger group of people into two ore more groups that compete against each other. A player, who is not allowed to speak, has to act out a word or phrase they picked out of a bowl while their team members try to guess. For Christmas, choose words, phrases, songs, or movie titles that are associated with Christmas like Rudolph, candy cane, It’s a Wonderful Life, and tamales. Get full directions here.

Normally, limbo is played with a long stick, but for Christmas, use a string of lights, a long roll of wrapping paper, or a stick you’ve covered with wrapping paper. Two adults hold the limbo strand or stick at about shoulder height and players take turns going under without touching the strand or stick. Each turn the limbo strand/stick is lowered a little bit and players have to bend backwards to avoid touching it. If any part of a player’s body touches the limbo strand/stick, they are out. If any part of a player’s body other than their feet touches the ground, they are out as well. The winner is the last one to go under without falling or touching the limbo string/stick.
