My heart really goes out to the mother of Chicago twin boys, Demario Bailey and Demarcio Bailey. Christmas is only a week away and this poor woman will be spending it with only one of her 15-year-old sons. You see, Demario passed away this Saturday afternoon and the reason because it is truly tragic. His life was taken away in efforts to protect his twin brother from armed robbers. How devastating is this?

Demario and Demarcio were on their way to an Englewood High School basketball game when the incident happened. The boys were finally given permission to go out on their own more often, which makes this story a million times sadder. Before making it to the game they were stopped and ambushed on a street corner by a group of teen armed robbers.
They went through the boys' pockets and tried taking their jackets. Demario was so upset at how they were handling his brother that he cried out, "Get off my brother." Little did he know one of the attackers was armed with a gun. He shot Demario right in the chest and the poor thing collapsed almost immediately. Meanwhile, Demarcio was running for his life until he looked back and noticed his twin was lying face down on the ground.
"He didn't see anybody other than Demario on the ground," his grandmother Bernice Fitzpatrick told the Tribune. "They were raised to stick together." Fortunately, the cops were able to track down some suspects and arrested the 17-year-old robber who shot Demario. But that still doesn't make up for his death.
It's sad, because Demario and Demarcio were good boys. Demario was on the basketball team and his coach claims he was "one of the best kids" at Johnson College Prep. "We do so many things for them, to keep them off the street and out of trouble. For something like this to happen … it tears the community apart," Robin Callahan told WLS-TV.
Did I mention this took place three days before the twins' 16th birthday? It's all so sad and I can't even imagine how heart-broken Demarcio must be knowing that his brother died trying to defend him. That's something that will probably stay with him forever!
