Aubrey Castro is 3 years old and says that when she grows up, she wants to be an artist. The truth is that she's already an artist and she's using her art to raise thousands of dollars for cancer research by selling homemade Mother's Day cards. You see, pediatric cancer research is close to her heart because she has been battling leukemia since last May. "Ever since she's been going through treatment, she'll paint or color with crayons or makers," Her mother Vanessa Castro says. "Even when she was at home and on steroids. She had an easel, it was painting and coloring … that's how the cards evolved."
This kid is my newest hero and I bet you she's about to become yours too!

Aubrey's father, Ivan Castro, says that when the family found out that very little federal money is allocated to pediatric cancer research, they knew they had to do something to help. That's when Aubrey used her artistic abilities to create cards. Love her!
A printing company donated the materials for the cards and Aubrey's cards are being sold in exchange for a $5 on the St. Baldrick's Foundation website and a friend's Etsy store. The goal is to sell 2014 cards by Mother's Day. So far they have sold about 1,500. If they fall short of their goal, then they'll keep selling the cards through the rest of the year.
As for Aubrey's health. She is still in treatment, but she is responding well. The hope is that she will be done with chemo in July 2015.
This kid is amazing and very inspirational. I have to say that it appears that the apple did not fall far from the tree. Her parents are both very invested in raising money for pediatric research as well. Vanessa Castro will be shaving her head alongside 45 other mothers in Boston this year for the St. Baldrick's "Mommas Shave for the Brave" event where 46 moms shave their head to raise funds and awareness because every weekday approximately 46 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer.
Check out my 3-year-old hero in action and if you need some cards for Mother's Day, she can totally hook you up.
