Baby miraculously lives after kidney transplant from mom fails

Just because I'm not religious does not mean I do not love miracles. I LOVE them, especially when they involve babies. I'm so excited to tell you of one such miracle. Ayana Richards, who is orignially from Trinidad and  lives in New York City, gave birth to a baby girl she named Anaya. That baby girl was born with an extrememly rare kidney disorder called Finnish type congenital nephrotic syndrome. It's an inherited disorder that causes kidneys to not just expell waste trhough urine but also vital proteins. Because of her condition, Anaya's life has been put in danger time and time again. When the little girl was 3 years old, Richards decided  to dontate one of her kidneys to her daughter in hopes of helping her live a normal life, but the transplant failed. It is a true miracle that Anaya's story does not end with the failed transplant because it almost did.

What prompted Richards to donate a kidney to her daughter was that Anaya had a central line in her chest so she could get regular infusions of the proteins her kidneys removed, but that central line caused her to get life threatening infections. Richards found out she was a donor match for her daughter and she was eager to help her. Anaya's kidneys were removed and she was given one of her mother's. Richards was told the transplant was a success, but two hours later she was informed that a blood clot ruined the transplanted kidney.

Anaya's health issues were made worse because of the anesthesia from the operation. She went into respiratory arrest. Somehow she pulled through and stayed alive with the help of dialysis. A few months later, a kidney became available. Imagine what those months of waiting must have been like for that child's mother. Excruciating, I'm sure.

Anaya is now 4 years old and kickin' butt. She is thriving and learning Mandarin in her preschool, where she was voted "most likely to become president."

This child is a miracle and an inspiration. She's a champ and so is her mother. I love a good miracle story.
