I always wanted to have an abuelito, but both passed away before I was born. If I'd been lucky enough to have one, I like to think I would've done the same thing 10-year-old Cara Jumper did for her grandpa Coy Jumper. Not long ago, the 72-year-old had a stroke and fell into a pond during an outing with his granddaughter in South Carolina. The girl immediately jumped in, got him out and managed to drag her 230-pound abuelo to his car.

Although she'd only done it a couple of times before, the quick-thinking, heroic little girl realized she would need to get behind the wheel of the car if she wanted her grandfather to survive. So that's exactly what she did. Cara drove the three miles back home and delivered him to his wife who says he couldn't swallow.
Coy Jumper spent six days in the hospital and has no recollection of his granddaughter's heroism, but he says he'll remain forever grateful to her. For her part, Cara says carrying her abuelo to the car was one of the hardest things she's ever done, but she didn't even think twice about it. When asked what went through her head when she realized what was happening, the girl said: "I didn't think much at all. I just jumped down in there and got him out." Yes she did!
I'm not 100 percent sure other children her age would've reacted the same way. It's amazing to me that Cara didn't let fear overtake her and wasted no time doing exactly what she had to do to save her grandpa's life. I can only imagine that the bond these two shared has gotten even stronger since this terrifying incident that could've ended so differently.
