‘Breaking Bad’: Terminally ill teen who inspired ending never got to see finale

After last night's Breaking Bad finale, many fans are reeling, but the California teen who influenced creator Vince Gilligan to change the ending didn't get the chance to watch it. Kevin Cordasco, a 16-year-old boy who died from a rare form of brain cancer known as neuroblastoma, inspired Gilligan after he paid the teen a visit last October.

Cordasco amazed the creator after he proved just how dedicated he was to the show. In fact, many people don't know that one IMPORTANT scene in the finale was edited purposefully to answer the teen's biggest question. Spoiler alert: Don't keep reading if you haven't watched last night's episode yet!

In the show, Walter White had two former business associates, Gretchen and Elliot, who created a billion dollar business called Gray Matter. Although White was no longer part of the team, the couple offered to pay for his cancer treatment in the show's first season. However, they didn't appear again after White rejected their charity money and left Cordasco wondering what ends up happening to them.

Gilligan took Cordasco's advice as to how Gretchen and Elliot should be added to the ending and impressed not only him, but the show's writers as well. "I came back and reported [what he said] to the writer's room, and it colored our perception of the show. We added something to these final eight episodes that we wouldn't have otherwise if Kevin hadn't mentioned that," Gilligan told the show's podcast.

Although the teen had delicate health, he refused to learn the ending ahead of time and insisted he watch it with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, Cordasco died in March before the finale aired. Cordasco's father said his son identified with White who was also struck by cancer. "I think that Kevin connected with that character, moving forward and never looking back, never asking why. [Kevin] didn't let his cancer stop him from doing anything," he explained.

It's sad that Cordasco died before he got to watch the ending, but it's amazing that he left his mark on one of the most critically acclaimed TV shows of all time. Kudos to Gilligan and the rest of the Breaking Bad team for making his dream come true and giving us one of the best finales in television history.
