Today is National Dog Day and because of this special holiday we want to look back at the amazing dogs that have made headlines this year. They may be our pets, but they've proven to be so much more than that in our lives. Dogs are the prime example of unconditional love and loyalty as we have learned so often that it's no surprise that there is a day dedicated to them!

If it weren't for my dog, being home alone would be a lonely and empty place. I enjoy knowing that I always have company with him even if we're both sitting there quietly. What counts is the presence and knowing that you can always depend on them to be there.
I'm positive that I'm not the only dog owner who feels this way towards their pet since they play an important role in our lives. Take for instance the dog who kept a 3-year-old girl alive until police came in freezing temperatures. It's amazing how the pooch knew the child was in danger and needed to be cared for. He wasn't the only dog who has done great things this year.

Oklahoma tornado
After the awful tornado that struck Oklahoma in May, one survivor got the surprise of a lifetime when her missing pooch re-appeared while she was being interviewed on live television.
Dog keeps misssing girl warm
This amazing dog kept his 3-year-old owner warm after she wandered into a marsh in Poland. On that cold night workers worked hard to find her and luckily found her with the pooch by her side.
Dog saved pregnant lady
This amazing pooch saved this woman after she fell into seizures while she was 26 weeks pregnant. The dog, Louie, alerted her husband who rushed her to the hospital where they treated the mom-to-be and delivered her baby prematurely.
Dog rescues abandoned newborn
This heroic dog in Thailand found an abandoned newborn in the garbage and brought it to his owners. This story has a happy ending as his owners intended on adopting the baby girl since they believed a miracle brought her to their door.
Dog finds dead baby
This amazing dog found the body of a dead baby in an Oklahoma City street. Instinctively he brought the baby home to his housesitter while his owner were out of town. Although the baby couldn't be saved, thankfully this dog kept a good eye out and informed the right people.

This service dog helps his disabled owner change her baby's diapers! She's the envy of every mom out there as the pooch fetches diapers, helps change the baby, and even tosses out dirty diapers.
Seeing eye dogs help owners find love
A visually impaired couple met through their seeing eye dogs! They had been taking a training course with their dogs and their pooches couldn't keep their paws off each other, leading the couple to meet. Eventually they too fell in love!
