It looks like Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, and Florence Welch will be joining forces for a female empowerment concert in support of Chime for Change, a campaign that's designed to promote education, health, and justice for girls and women everywhere. The show will be going down on June 1 at London's Twickenham Stadium and I have to admit, I'm pretty excited about it. Three amazing musical divas in one room empowering women all around the world–how amazing is that?
After hearing the news I couldn't help but feel inspired, and I started to think of things we women can do on a regular basis to empower ourselves. Get to know yourself: In order to become an empowered woman and empower others, you have to know who you are. I've come across a lot of women who claim they lost themselves after marriage and becoming a mom. They put so much time and work on others, but not enough time goes into themselves. Try to take a few hours throughout the week for YOU time. Whether it's going for a jog in the park, hitting a yoga class, or taking yourself out for lunch. It's important to understand what your own strengths, weaknesses, and dreams are.
Educate yourself: I always say you can never stop learning. That doesn't mean you have to go back to school, even though it's never too late for that either! But it can be as simple as taking a class or two in a subject that interests you, or if you're a busy mom, just taking the initiative to teach yourself something new whether it's with reading books or exploring a weekend workshop. A smart woman is definitely an empowered woman.
Be Independent: I can't stress enough how important is for women to be independent. Seriously, have you ever gone to the movies or had dinner in restaurant alone? It doesn't matter if you're single or not, enjoying alone time is essential as it helps to energize your spirit. You need to be comfortable with who you are and knowing that you're strong enough to face any situation on your own is truly empowering. Make it a goal to try something new that you wouldn't normally do alone every month. Whether it's treating yourself to a weekend getaway for one (if you can) or just to a movie. I like hitting up my local internet cafe just to relax and catch up on some of my favorite blogs.
Dream big: Just because you're a mom doesn't mean you can't go after your dreams. Honestly, no dream is too big if you really set your mind to accomplishing it. Not sure what you want? Try making a vision board to help illustrate and remind yourself of all the different goals you'd like to accomplish. Or create a Pinterest account which is pretty much a vision board you can create easily online. No excuses!
Surround yourself with other empowered women: I always feel the most empowered when I'm around other strong, ambitious women. They really motivate me to continue following my dreams and they also work as a strong support team. Start making deep connections with other women in both your professional and personal life. They can help provide you with honest feedback and they'll be there when you need someone the most. These connections will in time make you become a better person. Believe me!
Give back: As an empowered woman it's your duty to help others. Remember when you help others you're sort of also helping yourself. Volunteering for a program or charity you really believe in is great, but there are still others way you can give back. It can be as simple as mentoring a young girl, support a woman's business, or just watching your girlfriend's kids every so often. It's all about opening your hear to other women so that they can open their hearts to you.
