The world's oldest person, Jiroemon Kimura__ has a lot to be thankful for. The Japanese Citizen has just turned 116-year-old and his birthday celebration on Friday included a message from the Japanese Prime Minister and a visit from the mayor. Yes, you heard right, he's 116. Kimura was declared the world's oldest living person back in December, but it looks like he just brought his record up another year. Good for him!

He might be the oldest man on the planet, but Kimura seems to be in good health and in good spirits. And who could blame him? He has 5 kids, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and his birthday wishers include a video message from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and a visit from the mayor of Kyotang, Japan, IBTimes reported. Sounds like a good life to me!
Kimura is reported to be one of only 12 living people in the world who were born before 1900, according to BBC. The 116-year-old was born in 1897. Misao Okawa, the world's oldest living woman is 115-years-olds and also lives in Japan.
He worked as a mail carrier before he retired at the age of 60, then went on to farming until he was 90. And the old man must have some pretty amazing genes that run in his family, because according to ABC News, 4 of his siblings lived well into their 90s and he even had a younger brother who lived up to 100 years. Wow!
Though Kimura spends most of his time in bed, he still eats 3 meals a day. In fact, he celebrated his birthday with his usual daily meals of rice, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes, which was prepared by his 60-year-old granddaughter-in-law. He also doesn't smoke and only drinks a "modest" amount of alcohol. Talk about one healthy viejito!
