Today is International Women's Day, and here at MamásLatinas, we want to celebrate you, and congratulate you for always making us Latinas look good in this country. Each day, more and more of us are carving out a space in this country, and we keep showing our intelligence, our talent, our work ethic, our resourcefulness, and humanity, beauty, and our heart.
While here in the U.S. our rights as women continue to be debated (can you believe it in this day and age?!), our countries have already seven female presidents, countless diplomats, and even some ministers of defense. Our movie and television stars become businesswomen and producers, taking an important role behind the camera (and of course influencing the films that are made!). Our scientists are pioneers. All these Latinas are simply amazing.

All those accomplishments inspire us to be better everyday. It's not a coincidence that more of more of our young Latinas are graduating from college every year, and it's Latinas who make up the majority of the small and medium-sized business owners in the country.
For these reasons and more, we mamás Latinas are really helping our community in the U.S. get ahead. And because of all your accomplishments: Happy International Woman's Day! To keep celebrating, check out a few more powerful mamás Latinas that inspire us each day.
Shakira
Honestly, if there's one thing I'd like to steal from the Colombian superstar is her incredible ENERGY to do it all! Composer, singer, humanitarian, and now, mom!
The President of Brazil
Dilma Rousseff became Brazil's first female president in January 2011, and since then she's considered a real force behind her country's development and improvement.
The president of Petrobas
María das Gracas Silva Foster is the first woman to head a national oil company, Brazilian Petrobas. This accomplishment is huge in itself, but to do so in a corporate environment dominated by men is even more amazing.
The president of Costa Rica
Even though Costa Rican president Laura Chinchilla is against women's reproductive rights and she insists on mixing religion with politics, her power in Central America can't be denied.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer López has broken multiple records in her career, not just as a Latina, or as a woman, but as an artist. She was the first artist to ever have a number one movie and a number one album at the same time, back in 2001 when her music CD J.Lo and film The Wedding Planner were both at the top of the charts simultaneously.
Gisele Bundchen
The beautiful Brazilian supermodel has demonstrated that her talent goes well beyond the runway: The highest paid model in the world has a line of organic beauty products and clothing in her native country.
Adriana Ocampo
Raised between Colombia and Argentina, Ocampo says she always dressed up her dolls as astronauts. Today, this Latina leads international research on Venus for NASA. Although she's not a mom, she says she feels like all her young mentees are her children, and she works tirelessly to attract more women into science.
Sofía Vergara
Besides being one of the industry's highest paid actresses, Sofia Vergara is a business-minded powerhouse with her own clothing like at Kmart and several high-profile contracts with huge companies (Cover Girl and Pepsi, among others!). She fought hard for years to cross over, and her time finally came with hit sitcom Modern Family.
