Inspiring 5th-graders make heartwarming snow day visit to sick classmate

Well, break out the tissues and get ready to hug your kid because this story might be the sweetest thing I've ever heard. On Wednesday, students at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Omaha were given a snow day. Every kid's wish, right? But instead of spending it drinking hot chocolate and having snowball fights, a group of fifth-graders decided to go to the hospital and visit their classmate who was diagnosed with leukemia in December.

See?! I told you you'd need tissues! And that's not even the most heartwarming part. What happened next will really make you tear up.

Since first getting diagnosed, Lauren "Lolo" Hacker has gone through more difficulties than any kid should ever have to experience. She's undergone chemo and spinal taps, lost her hair, and at one point, had to be put on a machine for oxygen. Due to risk of infection, she's only allowed a few limited visitors. So when the snow day came around, her classmates wanted to do something extra special for her.

Unable to actually enter her room, the fifth-graders decided to let Lauren know they were for her in a different way. They situated themselves within view of her sixth-floor window and made snow angels in honor of their classmate. Imprinted in the snow above them were the words, "Lolo's Angels."  Is that not the most amazingly sweet and kindhearted gesture you've ever heard of?

According to the Omaha World-Herald, Lauren was thrilled to see her classmates and share part of the snow day with them.

What a great story! I can't even imagine how hard it must be for Lauren and her family to deal with her illness every single day, especially considering she's so young. But knowing you have the encouragement from friends and peers can make all the difference and it's so encouraging to see the fifth-graders show her their support. Though she might not have been able to go outside and join them herself,  her classmates made sure that Lauren still had a memorable snow day!
