This incredibly feel-good story will bring a smile to your face! A dad of three, who lost his job back in May and had been struggling since then, received a stroke of luck when he won the MILLION dollar jackpot of the Oregon lottery. Riley Gunn made a pit stop at the Lil' Pantry Market & Deli to buy the family corn dogs when he picked up $16 worth of lottery tickets after registering for classes with his wife at a local community college.

Gunn and his wife, Misti originally lived in Reno, Nevada, but after Riley lost his job, they moved to Wolf Creek in Oregon to start over. According to the U.K. Daily Mail, The family had been living in a one-bedroom apartment his sister had offered him after living in Reno became too expensive for them. The funny story behind the lottery tickets is the fact that Gunn kept it a secret from his wife whom he knew would not be happy with his purchase.
When he found out that he had a winning ticket, Gunn shocked his wife who at first thought he was kidding. In order to claim the prize, Gunn even had to borrow money from a friend to drive 200 miles out to the Oregon Lottery Headquarters. But Gunn said he had a gut feeling that he had won since he had read that many winning tickets are sold in small towns.
The couple decided to deposit their winnings and then donate part of the money to their church which was important to Gunn. "You give back to God what he is giving to you," he said. In addition to this, they bought new cars, bid on a home in Redding, California, and he's planning on using the remainder of the cash to start his own software and renewable energy business. Although this is a positive start for the Gunn's new year, they won't forget how hard it was to live off of nothing.
It's great to hear that this family finally has Lady Luck on their side! It has to be the hardest task to live unemployed while still having to maintain a family with the little means you may have. If Gunn hadn't bought those tickets they would still be in a rut, which comes to show you that SOMETIMES it is worth it to play the lottery. Of course you shouldn't rely on it entirely, but hey, like the famous slogan goes, you never know!
