More excellent news for Latinos! A poll by WIN/Gallop International Association recently revealed that Colombians are the happiest people in the world. The poll measured the "Global Barometer of Hope and Happiness," in 54 countries and as a result found that Colombia was twice as happy as the global average.
That's quite the number! So what other Latin countries made the list?
Being half Colombian, I'm glad to hear that my mother's native country topped the list as the happiest country in the world. I'm not surprised at all considering I had relatives visiting my family last summer who are the most upbeat and joyous people I've ever met. There must be something in the water in Colombia, and I'd love a glass of whatever it is!
The survey showed that there were certain regions of Colombia which displayed a happier and more hopeful quota than the rest, reports say. As it turns out, the coastal city Baranquilla was by far the happiest followed by Medellin, Bucaramanga, Bogota, and Cali.

Colombia was also among the top 20 countries that had the greatest hope towards an improved economy. Meanwhile, rounding out the top 10 happiest countries were Brazil in third place and Peru (my other half!) in eighth. Yay!
This list comes as no surprise as we learned not long ago that seven out of the 10 countries with the most positive attitudes happen to be Latin American countries. If you recall, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, Paraguay, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Venezuela all topped that survey.
Well, looks like I know where I'm going on my next vacation! Perhaps it's the fact that Latinos love to party and have strong family values which keeps us content. Every time I speak to my relatives in Colombia, they're always having family reunions or parties on the weekend … and, well, how can you be in a bad mood if you're always having a good time?
So next time I book a flight, it will be straight to Colombia so I can get a taste of positive energy and never-ending happiness!
