Determined 14-year-old rebuilding her own car, becomes online hero! (VIDEO)

Kathryn DiMaria is one ingenious and resourceful 14-year-old. Two years ago, the Michigan girl approached her parents with the idea of building a car, a Pontiac Fiero, for her to use when she reached legal driving age. With their permission, she got to work…and since then, her project has built an amazing and supportive online community with tons of fans who have followed her progress for years, offer her advice, and even send her gifts. Isn't that incredible?!

Apparently, DiMaria first got the idea when she spotted the sports car at an auto show and fell in love with it. She told her parents that she wanted to buy a used version of the car with her babysitting money and in the four years before reaching driving age, learn how to budget and restore it. After hearing her proposition, her dad, Jerry, couldn't resist sharing the story on an online forum. What he didn't know is that he had unwittingly started a community that would later help his daughter work towards her goal!

Now, at the age of 14, DiMaria has come a long way in rebuilding the car of her dreams and though she's done most of the work herself, she hasn't exactly been completely alone. In addition to some help from her own family members, hundreds of Fiero lovers have sent her materials and personal gifts and shared their knowledge about the car.

Wow, what an amazing and heartwarming story! I can't help but be impressed by this creative young girl. Can you imagine your 12-year-old child coming to you and asking for your permission to build their own car? I bet her parents certainly weren't expecting that. But not only has the teenager stuck with her plan, she has also received an incredibly supportive response from people around the world to boot!

If I were her mom, I would be so proud! DiMaria taking this initiative and working hard to meet her goal says a lot about her character and I have no doubt that this go-getter attitude will get her really far in life.

Enjoy your car, Kathryn!
