Spanish designer Dolores Cortes names 10-month-old Latina with Down syndrome as the face of new campaign!

If you're as tired as I am of seeing the same types of ads and catalog covers over and over again, get ready for a very refreshing change. Spanish designer Dolores Cortés just named an adorable little Latina girl with Down syndrome as the face of an entire swimwear campaign! Ten-month-old Valentina Guerrero will star in Cortés' 2013 DC Kids ads, as well as appear on the cover of Cortés' U.S. catalog.

Isn't that amazing?! Last week, Cortés even brought little Valentina out on the runway while showing her new collection in Miami beach. The young girl will reportedly be the first person with Down syndrome in history to be the main model of a campaign from a prestigious fashion designer. "People with Down syndrome are just as beautiful and deserve the same opportunities. I'm thrilled to have Valentina modeling for us," Cortés said in a statement.

Personally, I'm thrilled with the designer's decision! Little Valentina is so darn cute! And though I know many would call the move just another marketing strategy, I think it's more important to acknowledge the fact that it's at least a step in the right direction. Isn't it about time we start featuring more diverse types of people in advertisements and catalogues? Plus, anything that removes the social stigma from people–with Down syndrome or otherwise–should be encouraged.
