Happy birthday to the one of the most inspiring Latinas in the world, Sonia Sotomayor! The Puerto Rican Supreme Court justice is turning 54 today and with all of the amazing accomplishments she's made throughout her wildly successful career, she has plenty of reasons to celebrate.
And here at MamásLatinas, we're also paying homage to the occasion! In honor of Sotomayor and all she's done for the Latino community, we've rounded up 5 of her best moments that perfectly demonstrate why we love her!

1. She broke ground for the Hispanic community and particularly Latina women everywhere when, after years of hard work, she became the first ever Latina Justice of the Supreme Court.

2. She's willing to pass on some of her impressive knowledge and wisdom to future generations. In fact, she was NYU's commencement speaker this past year at Yankee stadium–which is fitting since not only because she is a big baseball fan (see below), but also because she was an excellent student, graduating at the top of her class from middle school to her days at Yale Law.

3. She loves baseball and, as a native of the South Bronx, she is a dedicated Yankees fan and a devoted baseball supporter. In 1995 she ended a 232-day long baseball strike, becoming revered by players and fans alike and ensuring herself a spot in baseball history as the judge that "saved baseball." Here she is throwing out the first pitch at a Yankees game in 2009!

4. She has a fun side! Like any Latina, she likes to dance, particularly salsa. Here she is with Puertorican actor Esaí Morales dancing the "Sotomayor Mambo" -composed especially for her by musician Bobby Sanabria- at The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts gala in 2009.

5. She's still young at heart. In February of this year, Sotomayor lent her judging skills to favored children's series, Sesame Street.
