We face a lot of adversity in the US. There are dump politicians proposing “White People Day” and those who are trying to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”, which turned out to be a really bizarre joke.
And then there’s opposition to the DREAM Act, which stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, a bill that would allow undocumented students to attend college in the US. It was originally introduced in the Senate in 2001 and was reintroduced last year, but still has not passed. But now there may be renewed hope for illegal minors.
An anonymous undocumented student who identifies himself as a senior at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, has written a DREAM Act Student Resources Guide with advice for scholarships and other financial aid for his fellow “DREAMers.”
This inspirational document has touched my heart and it is an absolutely must read for any student seeking help to achieve his or her American Dream of getting a college degree despite their illegal immigrant status.
Giving advice like “don’t be afraid to ask for help” and “never make excuses”, the guide ends with helpful links and one last message said with the unwavering Latino spirit that we all need when facing such adversity: ¡SÍ SE PUEDE!
What do you think of this inspirational student writing a DREAM Act Student Resources Guide?
