That's what happened to a British woman who woke up from the procedure and discovered that her legs had been amputated. Read ahead to make sure this never happens to you or a loved one.

Ella Clarke woke up from her c-section, after giving birth to her eighth child, and realized that both of her legs were cut off from the knees down. Reportedly, the 31-year-old suffered from placenta previa, which occurs when a mother's placenta partially or fully covers the cervical area.
During the procedure, she also suffered from placenta accreta. The condition happens when the placenta attaches too deep to the uterine wall. Women who have had multiple c-sections run the risk of this occurring. She was placed in an induced coma after having a hysterectomy and developed blood clots that led to her legs being amputated.
Clarke told the media that she expected to experience one of the best moments in her life while delivering her baby girl. "Instead my world has been shattered," she said.
The only positive in this tragedy is that her daughter Winter is healthy and doing well. The malpractice her mom suffered is being investigated.
