Chia seeds
According to Chabán, Chia seeds are a great appetite suppressant and help speed up your metabolism. They're a perfect ingredient to add an extra boost of fiber to your morning smoothie.
Broccoli
Chabán says this green veggie is great when you're trying to detoxify. It's rich in vitamins A, C, D and folic acid. The best way to get the full nutrients it offers is to eat lightly steamed or boiled.
Fish and chicken
These meats, says Chabán, are a perfect substitute for heavier red meats when trying to lose weight. They're rich in omega three fatty acids and low in saturated fats. A 2007 study on fish specifically by the International Journal of Obesity also found that the benefits are limited to certain types of fish, which makes life way easier.
Nuts
Nuts are on Chabán's fat-blasting list as well. They are high in protein and help you feel full for longer. Unlike other snacks, they contain healthy fat and omega three. The key is that nuts help with slimming down if consumed in moderation.
Oysters
Last on Chabán's list are oysters, which are key for losing belly fat. They contain zinc, which helps to boost your metabolism. The other perk is that they're also super low in calories so you don't have to count your serving!
Papaya
The nutritious juicy fruit has a heavy dose of papain. The enzyme helps speed up digestion and aids your body to break down protein quicker. Eat whole, add as a refreshing garnish to your grilled meals or add to your fruit smoothie.
Coconut water
Who doesn't love coconut water? The refreshing natural juice contains plenty of potassium, which aids in detoxing our bodies. The trick is to drink in moderation and make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day as well.
Pineapple
The tropical fruit is perfect to consume after a meal since it helps with digestion. It also contains a protein extract known as bromelain, which helps break down meats and heavy foods.
Water with lemon juice
Skip the ice coffee in the morning for a glass of warm water and lemon juice. Since lemon is a digestive aid and liver cleanser, it helps to clear out your system and reduce bloating.
Asparagus
Each asparagus spear contains less than four calories. This makes it ideal as a side dish along with all of the nutrients it offers including, beta-carotene and vitamin C.
