Tallula was always a big kid. She loved food and as she got older, food was the only thing that made her feel better when she faced adversity. She literally ate her feelings and kept getting fatter and fatter. She blames her weight for her divorce because she lost respect for herself and was feeling ashamed of the way she looked. She had very little self-esteem and she ate because she felt sorry for herself. Tallula was born with the sickle cell gene, which she passed to her first two children.

Her first son carried the gene, but the second was born with the disease and had to stay at the hospital while he underwent treatment. The stress of having her newborn sick made Tallula eat more junk food. She felt bad because she couldn't fit in the hospital bed and ate even more. She was embarking on a road of self-destruction and didn't know how to push the brakes until she gave birth to her third child. She recalls she horror of seeing her newborn choke on her breast milk and she knew she must have eaten something that was causing the reaction to her newborn.

After the ambulance arrived and saved her baby, she called a friend and started her weight loss journey. She learned how to eat healthy food and cleaned her house of junk food. She also joined the gym and started exercising every day. Her weight loss transformation is truly remarkable because she did it on her own. The love she had for her children was all she needed to change her behavior. She went from not being able to fit in the bathtub to take her three children to trips. She's happy because she is giving a better future to her children; she's teaching them how to take care of their health and bodies.
