Could water be the reason you are having a hard time losing weight? Seems hard to believe seeing as water has zero calories and is so dang good for you, but a new study in the journal Obesity found that out of 300 overweight participants that were randomly assigned to two groups: one group who was to avoid all diet drinks and drink mostly water and another group that was to drink water and diet zero-calorie drinks. The group that drank water and diet drinks lost more weight. So that would mean, diet soda helps people lose weight? What?!
Haven't we been reading for half of forever that drinks like diet soda actually make people who drink them crave sugar more and end up being counterproductive to weight loss? What is going on here?

Well the details are that after three months of participating, the individuals who had diet drinks and water lost on average 13 pounds as opposed to an average of 9 pounds for people in the group that was to avoid diet drinks and drink mostly water.
Now, before you spit out your water and go grab a diet drink, keep in mind that this study did not account for what else the people in the no diet drinks and water group were drinking. I mean, they were told to mostly drink water, but that doesn't mean they only drank water. They could have been having some high calorie drinks like juice or regular soda as well.
Call me skeptical, but I cannot bring myself to believe that any diet drink could be better for us than plain ol' H2O. Oh, and did I mention that the study was funded by The American Beverage Association? I'm not saying that skewed the results, but COME ON! Okay, maybe I'm jaded and skeptical and I really, really, like water.
