____A woman who goes by "Freelee the Banana Girl" claims to have the secret to getting slim and keeping the weight off. She's made headlines before because she says she eats up to 50 bananas a day and that it cured her eating disorders, helped her lose weight, and improved her appearance over all.
The controversial 34-year-old diet guru is a big supporter of what she calls "mono meals" which means that she only eats one type of food at every meal. Just what we need–another zany diet!

Freelee's controversial style of eating has been negatively received but she says she swears by it because it helped her lose three stone (or 42 pounds). Her diet which she describes as low-fat, high-carb, raw and vegan involves eating fruits in high quantities almost seems TOO extreme for many.
She says, "When you eat simply (like one type of fruit only at a time), vitamin and mineral absorption is maximized therefore more nutrition becomes available to the brain which in turn satisfies the body's nutritional requirements and stops cravings for junk foods."
Freelee also adds potatoes to part of her mono meals which means she eats up to five pounds of the tuber in one sitting. She justifies her eating plan by comparing it to that of animals in nature. "Just one type of digestive enzyme is needed to process the meal. If you look to nature you will see that animals in the wild always eat mono meals and do not suffer the same digestive problems or weighty issues as we humans commonly do."
She also claims she doesn't cut back on calories and that the only thing that has changed is the source of where she gets them from. As convincing as her diet might sound, many dieticians think she might be suffering from another eating disorder and that mono meal diets are not a healthy way to lose weight.
I have to agree with doctors in this case wholeheartedly. I have heard many times that eating a mainly plant-based diet is the best thing we can do, but this is EXTREME. Not only is she not consuming vegetables or other important foods but one form of fruit or potato at every meal can't provide you with all the nutrients you need. I also can't see myself eating 50 bananas a day–that's insane! The best thing we can do is try to eat as many fresh foods and avoid processed foods as much as possible.
