Leighton Sanders is only 8 weeks old and this beautiful little girl is fighting for her life at Seattle Children's Hospital as her parents keep vigil by her side. This all started about two weeks ago when Leighton's mommy, Keenan, noticed something was wrong with the baby's stomach. She says,"It appeared swollen instead of just chubby. [I thought] 'This has to be more than gas.' It wasn't huge. It was just kind of puffy." She was right, it was more than gas, it was a tumor. The tumor was huge and as much as doctors wanted to wait they couldn't because it was growing so fast that it went from the size of a softball to the size of cantaloupe.
Wait until you find out what the precious child has endured.

Leighton had to have a 12-hour surgery. The tumor was removed, but so was her gallbladder, intestines, and parts of her stomach and pancreas, which were damaged by the tumor. She went from weighing 8.5 pounds before the operation to 5.5 pounds.
There is some good news and that is that only five percent of the tumor was cancerous. That means that it is unlikely that Leighton has any cancer in her body because 99 percent of the tumor was removed. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
But my gosh you guys, this little angle has such a huge a difficult journey ahead of her. She has so many medical procedures left to go including an eventual multiple organ transplant to rebuild her digestive system.
Everyone in this family needs support. Mommy and daddy are by Leighton's side as much as possible, but they also have a 4-year-old son named Logan who is being cared for by friends and family. I'm sure that little boy misses his parents very much. Dang it if this isn't a very tough situation for a family to go through.
If you watch the news clip below there is a part that will absolutely make you want to melt into a puddle of tears. Leighton is covered in tubes and her beautiful little face peeks out and her eyes cry silently. You can actually see the emotion in her eyes and it will make you wish you could do just about anything to help this child.
A #teamleighton online fundraising site has been set up to help this beautiful family cover medical costs.Let's keep this family in our thoughts.
