Aging is something that every woman dreads, but knows is inevitable. When you're in your teens and 20s you hear your mom drone on and on about the bags under her eyes, but you don't exactly comprehend it.

Even though I'm in my mid 20s, I have become more conscious about my skin. I've taken pointers from my abuela who in her early 90s still doesn't look a day over 60 and hope that I will one day have that same fate. But, I was wrong when I thought genetics was the only thing that determined how badly you will age.
Below are some interesting facts that you were clueless about when it comes to aging:
1. You are what you eat: If you think you can get away with your junk food habit and not have it affect you, think again. A 2001 study found that women ages 70 and older who had a diet high in antioxidants, vitamins C and E were less likely to age badly.
2. Sleep on your back: If you are one of those people who sleeps on her side (guilty) you need to stop that now. By sleeping with your face down on one side repeatedly, you allow the skin to be mushed against the pillow. The problem is as you get older you lose collagen which makes you more prone to wrinkles in that area.
3. Not using SPF: I don't care if it's raining or snowing, ALWAYS wear SPF. UV rays from the sun are one of the main causes of aging and are strong enough to penetrate through your windows.
4. Sensitive skin: If you have sensitive skin, inflammations and allergic reactions can appear to age you. Make sure to always opt for hypoallergenic products to avoid having these problems.
5. Your hair grows in gray: If you notice that your hair is suddenly turning white or gray, the truth is this is how it is growing in. As you get older your hair will change color due to lack of pigment forming cells (they give your hair color). Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about that except dye it.
