- Be realistic. It might seem obvious, but in order to get anywhere, you need to make sure your fitness goals are attainable. So start small and work your way up so that you have a better chance at accomplishing what you want to without injuring yourself.
- Write out a list of goals and put it somewhere you'll see it. You'll be more likely to stick to your plan if it remains fresh in your mind. To remind yourself of your goals, tape the list to your fridge or somewhere you'll be sure to see it every day. You can also cross them off one at a time or write your accomplishments next to it to keep track of your progress.
- Figure out a schedule that works for you and stick to it. If you're more likely to hit the gym in the morning, make sure to allot the time before heading to work. Or vice versa, if you work out better in the evening.
- Go for one goal at a time. If you try to take on all your fitness goals at once, you'll only end up feeling overwhelmed. So try to tackle one thing at a time. For example, if you are looking to lay off junk food, start with that and plan some healthier alternatives. Then go from there!
- Find your best workout. Different kinds of exercise work for different people. You might be into yoga, but not into weight lifting or into running, but not into Pilates. Find the workout you enjoy the most and make it priority.
- Focus and don't get frustrated. It's tough to stay encouraged when you don't immediately see the results, but the trick is to concentrate, know your limits, and keep at it the best you can. It'll all be worth it in the end!
