Unfortunately, Vulvodynia isn't the only strange and painful vaginal disease out there. Here are five more common vaginal conditions you should know about. Make sure to talk to your doctor if you think you have similar symptoms.
Vagititus: Vaginal pain, burning, itching, and discharge are common symptoms for women suffering from Vagititus. It's an infection or inflammation of the vagina normally caused by bacteria, yeast, chemicals in creams, sprays or clothing that's in contact with your vagina (like your panties), and sexual partners.
Dyspareunia: Around one-fifth of women experience frequent painful intercourse known as Dyspareunia. For many this can occur before, during, or even after sex. What causes it? It can be a number of reasons, but for a lot women it's due to low levels of lubrication or estrogen. Estrogen creams prescribed by your gynecologist can help minimize the pain and discomfort.
Dysmenorrhea: Think menstrual cramps times ten. These pains are so severe they can interfere with normal everyday activities. It can be caused by number of culprits, but a majority of women who suffer from Dysmenorrhea also have endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
Adenomyosis: Severe pelvic pain during intercourse tends to be one of the main symptoms of Adenomyosis, along with long-term heavy menstrual bleeding. The cause is unknown but tends to be more common among women over 30 who have had children. It can even cause a mass or growth within the uterus which many times can only be treated with a full hysterectomy.
Vaginisums: Like Dyspareunia, Vaginismus is a condition that relates to pain during sex. Only this one is specific to pain during penetration. Women with this problem experience involuntary tightness of the vagina during intercourse which leads to discomfort, burning, pain, and in some cases the inability to experience penetration period.
